More about MMI Book Club

What We Do

Activities take place in Brooklyn NY in space donated by City Council Member Darlene Mealey of the 41st District. This includes: intense talent development in drama, vocal training and dance, book club meetings and teas, technical training with behind the scenes filming, film editing and directing. Industry professionals provide mentorship and often visit the program to speak to the students. Major event locations are acquired through partnerships, rentals or donations.

The Organization caters to youth ages 12 to 21, providing services utilizing engagement techniques such as professional celebrity mentorship in the arts, hands on activities (such as acting and singing and dance training, shooting a short film, editing and broadcasting), and producing phenomenal theater productions with strong positive messages. By holding the youth to a high standard of on every level they become vested in the success they accomplish. The organization runs year round.

The Summer Schedule focuses on performance techniques – actual stage productions and talent development with constant support offered toward educational and career goals.

WHERE WE ARE GOING

Moving Mountains Inc. has gained the backing of the Brooklyn Delegation of City Council Members and believes that this program will be a source of pride and accomplishment for all involved. The organization is growing rapidly in numbers and is actively seeking larger permanent space where the program can establish strong roots with room for continued growth. MMI plans to expand to include activities in neighboring boroughs and affiliations and linkages with cultural and artisan groups nationwide. We will are working to service the increase of participants while maintaining the integrity of our mission and the quality of the productions. We are also actively working to find funding sources to support the financial needs of the program which has until now, been possible through volunteer staff, donated space and fund raisers that cover the cost when additional support is needed. Performances and interaction with the public and the media at a more visible national level will make it possible to reach and affect the lives of youth nationwide by making them aware of the importance of the decisions before them and the choices they will make. It is the strong spiritual believe that sustains the Moving Mountains core that with a little bit of faith we can all Move Mountains.
